How to Have a Simpler Skincare Routine

Simple skincare routine

Skincare has become such a raved about topic online in recent years, with various brands and products garnering cult followings thanks to the internet. However, you might be finding yourself using these products but finding little to results, or have even discovered that your skin has worsened after constant use. Additionally, all those new products may be cluttering your bathroom sink and overwhelming you when it comes time to wash your face.

While listening to the hype can help you find good products that work for you every once in a while, finding a skincare routine with minimal steps and products that’s just as effective is so much easier than you think. Here are some ways you can make a simple yet effective routine that works best for you.

Listen to your skin’s needs

Cult skincare products find their ways into millions of homes thanks to before-and-after reviews that show miraculous changes after using them, and so this might convince you to think that it will work just as well for you.

While trial and error is a common occurrence when finding the right skincare routine, don’t just go into it blindly. Skin type alone makes skincare immediately subjective, with products for dry skin and oily skin formulated differently and catering to different needs.

It’s also important to check the ingredient list for names that could adversely affect your skin, no matter the raving reviews you might find for it. Knowing your skin and the problems you encounter on your own will help significantly in finding the right products and routine that’s custom to your needs.

Get rid of unnecessary products

Ten-or-more-step skincare routines are becoming increasingly common, but they’re totally unnecessary. While investing in your skin is very important, you just need to know the right products you need to invest in and get rid of the ones that are actually causing more problems than they are solving them.

The most basic, dermatologically suggested routine simply involves a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen —  that’s it. The most important thing is to establish a morning and evening routine that work well for you and stick with them religiously.

Go natural (but not too natural)

You’ve probably heard that DIY skin solutions using kitchen ingredients are the best way to go. But before you put that homemade exfoliator on your face, it’s important to know how certain kitchen ingredients may affect your skin and do permanent damage.

Things like fruit pits and crushed nut particles are incredibly damaging to the skin, creating microtears, infection, and irritation. Lemon, another commonly used food for DIY skincare, is too high in acid and can change the pH level of your skin, causing irritation, hyperpigmentation, and sensitivity to the sun.

Not everything that’s natural is good for you, and it’s important to trust products created and tested by professionals. For example, utilizing diluted apple cider vinegar on your skin and taking it orally both hold fantastic benefits for your skin and health, as long as you use it with the right products and know the right amounts.

You can also use completely natural oils like olive, coconut, or jojoba oil to remove makeup. Just remember to check in with dermatologists and do thorough research before putting anything from the kitchen onto your skin to avoid adverse effects.

Final Note

Skincare is an incredibly personal thing. The internet is filled with hype and miraculous claims but, at the end of the day, all you need to do is get to know your skin and what it needs because skincare isn’t one-size-fits-all. Going simple with a few products that are tried and tested for you is all you actually need.
